California senator Barbara Boxer once said, "Law enforcement officers are never 'off duty.' They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety at any time and place that the peace is threatened. They need all the help that they can get."
Every day, law enforcement officers face dangerous -- often peril -- scenarios while in the line of duty. In particular, firearm ambushes pose a great risk. Luckily, the emergence of protective gear has proved quite successful in high-risk situations. In fact, recent studies have shown that ballistic-resistant, soft body armor has saved the lives of more than 3,000 police officers over the last thirty years!
And yet , the National Institute of Justice found that only 60 percent of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. require officers to wear body armor on duty!
