Review and Guide - How To Install FAB Defense SBT K47 Buffer Tube on AKM

Review and How to install FAB-DEFENSE SBT-K47 buffer tube on AKM.

SBT-K47 is telescopic tube, manufactured by the Israeli company FAB-Defense, is intended for installation on AK and AKM family automatic rifles, as well as civil carbines based on them (Vpo-133, Vepr-KM and others). Like most FAB defense products, this tube is made of a durable composite material (polymer reinforced with glass fiber). Such material has a low weight, but at the same time it has extreme high density and resistance to impact loads, this tube is also not afraid of low temperatures. The structure of the tube includes a built-in compensator, that used for recoil reducing, which increases accuracy and retention of the target during rapid fire. The tube has 8 positions for stock installation, which is very convenient for adjusting weapon for the shooter’s features.

Tube installation

To install the tube, it is necessary to make an incomplete disassembly of your rifle, as it is necessary to remove the wooden buttstock, mounted on the weapon. You can also remove the buttstock by simply removing the receiver cover and the return mechanism, but I do not recommend doing this, that way - because with incomplete disassembly, you can also clean your weapon.

The buttstock is fastened to the receiver with two screws:

First, You need to unscrew them using a flat screwdriver:

The buttstock is very tightly seated in the receiver, so you probably will not be able to remove it without an instrument. To remove it you need to loosen the buttstock a little, with the help of strong strokes of the flat of the hand on the side surfaces of the buttstock towards the back of it. The buttstock will come out a little from the receiver after that…

The buttstock came out of the receiver approximately 2-3 millimeters:

Next, we need a flat screwdriver. Which we insert into the round technological hole, on the top of the receiver. Using a screwdriver as a lever, we make the buttstock removal.

After removing the buttstock, do not rush to install the tube immediately, first clean the inner surface of the back of the receiver, and also inner surface of the buttstock attachment tale. When else will you get there?

The inner surface of the receiver and the tail of the butt attachment:

When installing an internal screw, a wedge of composite material is used that propels the plug inside the receiver. Many people, whom installing this tube for the first time, may have some problems with the installation of the wedge, in order to avoid them You need to bait it on the screw for 1-2 turns, and then insert the tube into the receiver until it stops.

The tube installation is complete, Your weapon is ready to mount any commercial buttstock!

Conclusions

1. The tube is extremely light, weighs about 150 grams - an ideal ratio of low mass and durable construction. Similar tubes of metal alloys (mainly aluminum) weigh at least 1.5-2 times more!

2. The recoil reducing mechanism, built into the tube, decreases the impact of the butt in the shooter’s shoulder, which greatly increases the shooting comfort, and the weapon control.

3. There is no angle between the shooter’s eye and line of the sight, as in a regular buttstock. The tube and barrel are almost coaxial, which facilitates the aiming, especially when using optical sights.

4. The installation of the tube is quite simple, and can be performed in home or even battlefield conditions.
